BOLT Tactical Pen | QGO Reviews

Aesthetics & Feel: 82/100

Let’s talk about tactical pens. Yes, tactical pens. Despite being the epitome of “mall ninja shit”, there are very real and practical uses for a pen that can do more than just write. The key to an effective tactical pen is its ability to hide in plain sight. The Off Grid Knives “BOLT”, does just that. Despite being an XL sized pen, it’s not as egregiously huge as other models. Below you can its size compared to the popular Zebra F-701 pen and airpods:

Personally, I’d prefer something just a bit smaller to compensate for my dainty, manlet hands, but absolutely no space is wasted in the BOLT’s design. It’s sleek despite its girth (what an unfortunate thing to type) and is low-profile enough to pass as a regular pen; a textured grip makes the BOLT easy to write with, and a fidgety action is a nice bonus.

Build quality: 96/100

The BOLT is constructed of “aircraft grade” aluminum – a great feature, as long as the aircraft isn’t from Boeing. The BOLT features – get this – a bolt action to swap between its pen tip and tungsten carbide tip. The build is rounded out with a tight and solid clip that secures the pen nicely.

Performance: 87/100

The pen writes (with fancy German ink). The pen smashes (anything).

Value: 88/100

Retailing at around $40, I think the BOLT is a great EDC pickup. It writes, it’s a reliable self defense/emergency tool, and it doesn’t look like the Paul Blart Special.
